Small Business Growth Starts with One Thing

Annika Everson |

I’ve had the genuine pleasure of meeting some incredible small business owners who are smart, passionate, and deeply committed to making an impact with their talents.

When I first meet an owner, I usually start with:
“Loopology helps put customers at the center of your business with data-driven strategies that keep customers in the loop.”
Everyone gets the concept. But a few curious folks follow up and ask, “How do you actually do that?”

I’ll admit, that’s where I have to stop myself from going down the rabbit hole of all things Consumer Marketing (or B2C, Customer Experience, Hyper-Personalized Marketing, Customer Insights… you get the idea). Still, I love the question. It’s made me pause and pinpoint the single most important thing every small business owner needs to do to get on the road to growth:

Diligently maintain your customer list and put it in a system that allows you to track and strategically communicate with your customers.

So, how do I do that?
Well, it depends on where your customer data lives today and how your operations are managed.

For example, I recently helped a client move from tracking customers in a Google Doc to managing them in Monday.com’s CRM. The difference was night and day. With automations in place, every new lead now connects seamlessly to project management and that’s when the real fun begins: developing and executing a strategic communication plan based on the customer lifecycle.

It’s proven that consistent, thoughtful communication with customers drives growth. To make that happen, you need a secure system to store contact info, capture basic transactional data, and send timely, relevant updates.

Bottomline: Invest in a system that works for your business, maintain your customer list, and leverage a smart contact strategy to help you grow.
